Hollywood, CA – In what’s being called the greatest surprise in entertainment history, Daft Punk, who was thought to be the French duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, turns out to be the stars of the Farrelly brothers’ cult movie, ‘ Dumb and Dumber.’
While on set for ‘Dumb and Dumber,’ which filmed in locations like Rhode Island and Colorado back in the early 90s, both actors found they shared a love for making electronic music. After putting together some demos during their down time from filming the comedy, they wanted to release the music to the world.
Both modest actors, who had been quite successful before, wanted their music to be noticed for the great sound and not as the product of the stars of things like ‘In Living Color’ and ‘Arachnaphobia.” The two decided they would dress up in robotic outfits and start releasing their music. As time went on, the group found extreme success headlining festivals, scoring “TRON: Legacy,” and producing with Pharrell Williams.
The group never toured much, though, and never had many live appearances. This now makes more sense as the two were busy filming hits like the ‘Ace Ventura’ movies and ‘The Newsroom.” Daft Punk have shown their faces in the past, however it was not the real musicians. Carry and Daniels both hired French actors to pretend to be the duo to keep their identity hidden.
On June 10th, the trailer to ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ was debuted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the release date is set for November 14th, 2014. To help promote the movie and give it as much press as possible, Daniels and Carrey opened up in a recent interview to tell everyone they are Daft Punk.
The two actors/musicians have not mentioned anything about performing any upcoming shows, but said they definitely plan on continuing to make music when they have time. Sales on their albums have skyrocketed on iTunes over the past few days since the announcement was made and over 1 million pre-sales tickets to Dumb and Dumber To have already been purchased, five months in advance.
