Boston, MA – Outside of Fanueil Hall, the heart of Massachusetts’s capital, a middle-aged homeless man asks tourists and Bostonians for spare change. Well, that was up until last week.

Randy Smith, a Vietnam veteran originally from the West Coast, bought a Power Ball ticket at the gas station he stood outside of for years.

“I had just filled up on some fast food and had some extra change,” Smith told us. “It was my birthday and I wanted to treat myself to a little something.”

However, like most lottery stories go, the winnings have already proven to be quite a burden for Smith. “After being on the news after winning, a lot of the same people who pass by my old spot have already come up to me asking for money.”

“I simple looked at them and told them I didn’t have any,” said Smith. He plans to head back out west to reunite with his family.
