Hollywood, CA – Fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises are more than excited for the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies next month. The film will hit theaters on December 17th, 2014 and is the third and final in the three-part film adaptation based on J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit. Like it’s predecessor, the film will be released in IMAX and 3D formatting including High Definition Rate.

As it is the final film in the series, Hollywood has decided it should be an even bigger event than they had originally planned it to be. Following in the footsteps of final film releases like Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows and Mockingjay coming out in multiple parts for hype, but more importantly for money.

With less than three weeks until The Battle of the Five Armies is set to hit national theaters, Warner Bros. Pictures has decided to release The Battle of the Five Armies in 10 parts. The first part will be released on the original theatrical release date of December 17th, 2014 and the other 11 parts will come out exactly one year apart from the previous one. This means that the final part will come out on December 17th, 2023.

The running time of the film is 144 minutes, so each part will be 14 minutes long. Tickets will still cost around $20 a piece, but Warner Bros. Pictures thinks that this route will make them a lot of money. The film cost $250 million to make and the production company thinks they’ll be able to make that for each part. Without any results yet, other films are starting to hop on board. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have announced they will release The Amazing Spider Man 3 in 20 different parts. Each film will be around six minutes.
